Just of the many quoteable moments from my holiday in Dalhart. It was very relaxing and low-key...just what I was hoping for.
I flew into Amarillo, met my parents there, and then we all rode the hour or so drive north to Dalhart. We came into town right as the sun was setting, and as expected, it is quite tiny. We got to Heather and Daniel's cute house, unloaded, and I got a tour, since it was my first time being there. Then we went to eat at La Espanola, and had some delicious but greasy Mexican food. It was the beginning of 48 hours of continuous eating for which I am now paying dearly.
We went back to their house, and I went to bed soon after. I was excited to wake up the next morning. My sis made monkey bread, and I think I ate at least half of the pan myself. We had such a relaxing day, doing the stereotypical Thanksgiving Day activities...watching the parade and then football all afternoon. By dinner time I was quite full after "helping" my mom do the cooking.
Later that night, we watched the A&M game, and some of Daniel's family came over to hang out and have dessert. Yesterday was equally as laid-back. We mostly just hung around the house, watching more football and playing Wii. Not to brag but I am pretty skilled at Wii bowling. This morning I woke up, packed my stuff, and we headed back to Amarillo. My parents are there until tomorrow, but I needed to get back to get to work on everything due this last week.
Some highlights of Dalhart:
- Our first night we went to the grocery store after dinner. Ran into Daniel's mom and sister and about a thousand other people who knew my sister and bro-in-law. Realized how small the town really is.
- I bonded with my sister's dog, who previously I had not liked very much. She became my Thanksgiving date, as I was the only one not paired off.
- On Friday we walked main street Dalhart...it took about 5 minutes.
- It actually snowed. It lasted all of a minute and didn't stick, but it counts in my book.
- My mom called me a jerk because I schooled her in Wii. I didn't know how competitive she is until that moment.
- I got to see where my sister and Daniel live. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but I am still quite content living a big city. My favorite thing is seeing how happy those Browns are and how well they've settled in.
Now I'm just looking forward to Christmas!
